Did You Know that 1 in 50 Washington High School Seniors are Gates Scholars; the most Anywhere

Washington High School has the distinct honor of having the most Gates scholars in the Atlanta Public Schools system.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Millennium Scholarship is awarded every year to 1000 students from all over the country, and pays for their entire college expenses. (both undergrad and post-grad)

According to a report by Keith Whitney of WXIA, Atlanta has the 3rd largest amount of students who have been awarded this honor.  In addition, our very own Washington High School had the largest percentage represented in that number.

Washington High is one of the most historic schools in Atlanta due to its role during the days of segregation, and to hear that a number of their students are flourishing and receiving national accolades is a wonderful feeling recognition for the entire community.  We must also congratulate the teachers for their hard work.

That is awesome! Congrats to all these high achieving students and to your principals like Charcia Nichols. Students and parents, please come to Georgia Tech! I am the Student Initiatives Manager at Georgia Tech and an alum of GT. Though I am not involved much on the recruitment side, I am involved in everything that happens for minority students once they arrive here. Please consider GT. We want high achieving scholars from metro Atlanta schools! We have several Gates scholars but we need more. Particularly from schools like Washington and Mays (my high school!). You can find me at www.omed.gatech.edu! -Andre Dickens

Congrats to my Son's High School !!! The current staff has done an Awesome Job as well as the past staff which included Mrs. Juanita Settle and others who are too numerous to name. Congrats to Andre Dickens !! We definitely do not have enough APS students attending Georgia Tech. The only student from BTW I know of in recent years that attended and graduated from Georgia Tech is Avery Roberson who played football at Georgia Tech. Ironically the 1st Black Graduate at Georgia Tech( he graduated in the 60's) is a BTW Grad ! Maybe there needs to be more of a presence at Washington High and the rest of the APS schools from the Georgia Tech Alumni.
