Westlake Robotics Boot Camp

Hello this is the Westlake Robotics Team and we compete in robot building competitions where we have to construct a competitive robot, that can operate autonomously as well as when guided by wireless controls, to accomplish the tasks.    Just as sports teams are an exciting part of high school, we feel OUR team would offer more students insight on the type of careers they would like to pursue.  As you may already know these careers will be more realistically obtainable and lengthier than that of a pro athlete.

As strong advocates of engineering and innovation I would like to inform you of an event that our Team Programmer Dorothy Gilchrist has created.  It is the Westlake Robotics Team Boot camp for Middle School students within our community. We will be exposing future high school students to robotics and engineering concepts.  We would also introduce them to our team in hopes of recruiting strong robot building competitors at Westlake.

We are having the boot camp on Saturday, May 12th 2012 from 8am to 3pm.  The cost will be $40 per child and we will be having a maximum of 25 children. This is going to be held at Westlake High School. The students will be rotating through 5 stations containing information about Robot Building, Design, Schematics, Drive Training, and Programming. After rotating among these stations, they will get a chance to build their own robots out of Lego Mindstorm kits and make a presentation to parents and receive Certificates of Participation.

In conclusion, we have obtained the full support of Dr. Rivera, Ms. Stacker, and Mr. Belcher and we are asking for you to have your child attend this event. There aren’t very much opportunities for students in South Fulton to get to know robotics as those in the Northern parts of Atlanta. We would like to get to know your children since they are Westlake’s future. PLEASE READ BELOW FOR MORE INFORMATION.
