Before the SEC Championship game that saw Georgia lose to Alabama in a tightly fought competition, Allstate Insurance Company and a group of dedicated former UGA football players tackled a community service project as part of the fourth annual “Allstate Good Works Day” in Atlanta Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012.
Local college football legends Matt Stinchcomb, Jon Stinchcomb, David Greene and D.J. Shockley joined a team of Allstate employees to volunteer at Booker T. Washington High School near Southwest Atlanta.
The UGA football legends are all former members of the Allstate American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Team®, a prestigious national award honoring college football players for their commitment to volunteerism and serving others.
Planned in conjunction with Hands On Atlanta, the event kicked off with a student assembly where former college football standouts D.J. Shockley and Matt Stinchcomb spoke to students about the importance of leadership, education and teamwork.
Afterward, the players joined volunteers from Allstate to refurbish the school’s weight room facility and create a colorful mural for the gymnasium that captures and celebrates the rich history of the school.
