Morehouse School of Medicine Seniors Are Set to Learn Where They Will Do Their Residencies

On Friday, March 15, at 12:30 p.m., Morehouse students partake in Match Day and unveil their residency acceptance letters.

The hard classwork has been completed for the most part, and for Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) students the real fun begins after today's announcement of where they will be completing their residency.

Match Day is the day that roughly 16,000 medical students from around the country receive letters telling them where they have been accepted to complete their residency.  In a ceremony on Friday, March 15, 12:30 p.m., Morehouse students will be presented with notice of their residency matches in sealed envelopes.

MSM will host a special program and reception in their students' honor. "Here, these top medical students will share stories about their reasons for selecting residency specialties, connections with the local community and the MSM mission based learning experience," says Ronna Charles, Dir. of Marketing for MSM.

Morehouse School of Medicine was founded in 1975 as a two-year Medical
Education Program at Morehouse College with clinical training affiliations with several established medical schools for awarding the M.D. degree. In 1981, MSM became an independently chartered institution and the first medical school
established at a Historically Black College and University in the 20th century.

The Match Day event is a celebration of success, and also serves to re-charge and congratulate the hard-work the students have done to get them this far.  It is also a chance for the community to show support for these young graduates for their accomplishments.

"As health disparities begin to grow in U.S. minority communities," says Branch, "this group of talented medical students will finalize their training, with many of them working in their own home communities."

Congratulations to this year's graduates and good luck on your residency!
