Morris Brown Fish Fry and Yard Sale Saturday

The Women for Morris Brown College fundraiser continues through 7 p.m

The Women for MBC, Inc., will host a yard sale and fish fry on the campus of Morris Brown on Saturday, July 9 from 9am-7pm. 

The event is a fundraiser to help pay a $500,000 debt settlement from the Department of Education’s where as $10 Million was originaly expected. The debt is expected to be eliminated by the Department of Education by August 26, 2011.

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), a regulatory body for colleges and school systems, revoked Morris Brown's accreditation in 2002 when criminal investigations revealed that president Dolores Cross and financial aid director Parvesh Singh had systematically misappropriated federal funds earmarked for student scholarships to cover operating costs.

Including the recent announcement of the debt elimination by the federal government, more promising news has come forth in recents months to Morris Brown's resilence and solidarity of its alumni, students, faculty and staff.  

According to a recent Fox 5 Live news report, a letter from the Department of Justice indicates that Morris Brown's accreditation will be restored after the clearing of schools debt and the school was a $10,000 winner in a Home Depot retool your school contest.

Satuday's  event is called MBC Treasure Chest Sale. The  special event organizers  will start “Lining Up Booth Spaces” at 7:30am. 

Willene White-Smith, the president of the Women of Morris Brown College requests the community to "Achieve & Exceed" in their efforts to reliquish Morris Brown's debt crisis. 

"We are requesting that all alums donate gently-used items for us to sell to the general public," White-Smith said. "All monies from alumni donations will be given to the school for the D.O.E. Project. Individuals may rent booth space for $30. We thank God for your continued financial support & prayers of our school which has already raised over $250,000."
