Mt. Olive Elementary Gets New Principal

Two principals will take the helm at two Fulton County schools when the 2014-15 school year begins.

The Fulton County School Board on May 6 approved naming Lynn Johnson as the new principal of Spalding Drive Charter Elementary and Mari Early as the new leader at Mt. Olive Elementary. 

Johnson, currently principal of Mimosa Elementary School, will replace Christine Young who retired earlier this year. 

Johnson has served as Mimosa’s principal since 2010 and before that was the school’s assistant principal for five years. She previously was a teacher at Manning Oaks Elementary School and in Cobb County and Ohio. 

Johnson holds a bachelor's degree in early childhood education and education specialist degree in educational leadership from Georgia State University.

She received her master's degree in educational leadership from Kennesaw State University. 

Currently the principal at Harriet Tubman Elementary School, Early will temporarily move Mt. Olive's operations from its current site in East Point to a new facility under construction in College Park.

During the 2014-15 school year, while Mt. Olive is temporarily relocated, the existing building will be torn down and a new school built in its place. Once the new Mt. Olive opens in August 2015 in its original East Point location, the College Park school will be renamed and will open as its own unique facility. 

Early became Harriet Tubman's principal in 2012 and before that was an assistant principal at Evoline C. West Elementary for three years. 

She has previously taught at Evoline C. West, Hamilton E. Holmes, Parklane and Barnwell elementary schools.
