Video: Cee-Lo and sister Shedonna, Breakground on their new Greenhouse Foundation at SW Christian Academy

Cee-Lo returns to Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy to donate a Greenhouse for the students and community.

Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy welcomed one of their many talented former students on Friday, as recording artist Cee-Lo and his sister broke ground at the location of their donated Greenhouse.  Shedonna and her brother started the organization Greenhouse Foundation to help in the fight to end "food deserts", and to provide healthy foods to communities that are without.

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed attended the event and thanked the family for deciding to launch their worldwide initiative, right here in Southwest Atlanta "a few miles from where I grew up."

As the mayor said, Cee-Lo and his sister have the resources to launch this program anywhere in the world, but they chose here.

"OUR kids need this," Shedonna Alexander said.  For her and her brother giving back to the community and being philanthropic is in their blood.   There are actually the 3rd generation of their family that has had a mission bigger than themselves.  Their grandmother, Mrs. Ruby Callaway started a nationally recognized non-profit organization “Comprehensive Auxiliary for Southwest Community on Alcohol and Drug Education” (CASCADE) that focused on drug-prevention and education in underprivileged communities way back in the 1980's.  Her and her organization helped First Lady Reagan kick-off the 'Just Say No' campaign which was a huge success at its time.  In addition, Cee-Lo and Shedonna's mother, Sheila Callaway, was one of the first 7 female fire-fighters ever within the Atlanta Fire Department in the 70's.

This Callaway family continues to be a beacon of hope and success within our communities and abroad, and by the actions of Cee-Lo and Shedonna, it looks like they are just getting started.
