Meeting Saturday for New Booster Group for Mays, Feeder Schools

Embracing Mays Community and Cluster Schools (EMC2) will meet Aug. 27 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

Organizers of a new booster organization for and its feeder schools will hold a general body meeting 9-11 a.m. Sat., Aug. 27, at , 306 Peyton Road.

Embracing Mays Community and Cluster Schools (EMC2) seeks to "embrace the positive legacy of the Mays community" and improve the overall quality of the schools.

The organization's three main goals include:

1. Work with the cluster schools to improve communication between the schools , parents and the community at large.

2. Highlight the positives of the Mays High cluster schools, in order to
increase local support and use of our schools.

3. Work with parents and community members to address some of the
reasons (real or perceived) that cause students to bypass our
neighborhood schools.

The creation of the new southwest Atlanta group comes in the wake of an Atlanta Public Schools cheating scandal that resulted ethics questions, low morale and the firing of dozens of educators.

The scandal broke after Gov. Nathan Deal held a press conference to address the results of a state investigation that a found suspicious numbers of wrong-to-right corrections on the 2009 CRCT answer sheets in 58 Atlanta schools.

A July 2011 Cascade Patch review of the report  found 28 of the 44 schools with "minimal" to "severe" concern for erasing test answers from "wrong to right" fall within the Cascade Patch boundaries.

In addition to Mays, EMC2 schools include , Harper-Archer Middle and the ten elementary schools that feed into those schools (see PDF for full list).
