Additionally, Board Chair Reuben McDaniel, Vice-Chair Byron Amos and At-Large member Courtney English will discuss APS’ upcoming decision to become IE2, Status Quo or Charter System, in an effort to bridge the gap between traditional public schools and public Charter Schools.
“The time is now for APS to decide what type of a system we will have and what our goals are for the system”, president of SNAPPS commented. She went on to say, “APS has been Charter School friendly, however the community seems to be split on this issue and it is up to parent and community leaders to work towards quality education for ALL students in Atlanta Public Schools, the vote this November will be a turning point for education in Georgia”
SNAPPS is a parent advocacy organization that serves schools in the Douglass, Mays, Therrell and Washington High School clusters in SW & NW Atlanta. Their mantra of “if you are not at the table you are on the menu” is the driving force for their monthly meeting topics. Each month they bring decision makers to the community for information, education and empowerment.
On Monday, October 22, 2012, SNAPPS will continue to address the educational issues in Atlanta Public Schools. Parents and Community members receive valuable information each month, and the meetings are free and open to the public.
