Video Shows APS Aide Beating Special Education Student

Harper-Archer teacher secretly videotapes beatings after she says school officials didn't believe her when she said the aides were abusing the children.

A paraprofessional at a northwest Atlanta middle school is facing child cruelty and simple battery charges after he was secretly videotaped beating a special education student in class.

WSB TV reports that Alger Coleman was depicted in the video choking, hitting and beating the boy while another teacher’s aide eggs him on at Harper-Archer Middle School.

Coleman is no longer with Atlanta Public Schools, but the second paraprofessional, who is shown in a separate video abusing an 11-year-old autistic student, has not been charged and has been reassigned by APS pending a disciplinary conference.

The video was made in February by a Harper-Archer special education teacher after school administrators didn’t believe her when she said the aides were mistreating the children.

The parents of the students are considering filing a lawsuit. See more from WSB here.
