Video: Students at Spelman College Hold Bone Marrow Drive for 11 year-old Valaria Fenderson

Photos and video from a great event for a great cause, of helping 11 year-old Valaria battle her sickle cell anemia.

The following photos and video were from Friday's special event sponsored by Spelman College, V103, and 11Alive to help 11 year-old Valaria Fenderson find a bone marrow donor so she can beat her sickle cell anemia.

The event was held on the campus of Spelman College on Friday, September 7th, and the turn out was incredible.  Over 500 AUC students came over to Spelman to support and by the time I left, over 250 people had taken the donor test.

Valeria and her mother, who reside just outside the Cascade area in Austell, are in desperate need to find a suitable donor and an event like this helps to not only find matches, but also brings awareness to the disease that affects so many African Americans.

Anyone reading this article could be a suitable match for Valeria, and only a mouth swab test is what separates helping or not helping someone live on.

At this point if you would like to try to help Valaria or others, go to the www.Marrow.org site and Be A Match!

As Valaria's best friend's mother said, "Valeria is a star."  Let's help her continue to shine bright.
