Westlake Boys Tennis Team are Region Champions and going for State Title today

The boys went undefeated in the region and are currently the 2012 2-AAAAA champion.

The Westlake High School Boys Tennis team is attempting to complete their mission of winning the State Championship this Friday afternoon.  These players are already regional champs and they are at the end of their 2nd in a row unbeaten season.

Last year the team went all the way to state as well, but were unfortunate to receive 2nd place.  This year looks to be different and the team looks determined as ever.

If the Westlake team wins the competition today, they will be come the first all African- American boys tennis team to ever win the State Tennis Title.  They already hold the record for the most wins of any Westlake tennis team.

Congratulations to the Westlake High School Boys’ Tennis team for their unequalled successes this year. The boys went undefeated in the region and are currently the 2012 2-AAAAA champion. This followed last year's 2011 5-AAAAA championship, which was also undefeated. They are the most winning team in Westlake's history. They hold the distinction of being in the Final-Four for two consecutive years. Last year, they were on a quest of being the first all Black boy's tennis team to win a state championship, but fell short and were runner-ups. The boys, lead by Zackery Kennedy (captain), said, “No one
remembers number two, and it is our mission to succeed where we left off last year.”

The team is scheduled to play Walton High School at noon on Friday, May 11, 2012. When successful, they will play the final that afternoon to bring the title and accompanying trophy to its rightful home of Westlake High School. The team has gone undefeated this year and is the current champion of the LaGrange Invitational 2012.
