APS Scandal: Time To Clean House

The APS scandal, black folks, and Atlanta politicians

The APS cheating scandal was the most egregious in U.S. history.

Yes, it was that big. When the scandal first broke, it was a story in the AJC that started the ball rolling.

The writer had looked at the scores and wrote that it was statistically impossible for so many scores to move higher so quickly. So what was the response from the "community?"

Outrage. Victimhood. Cries of racism.

Black talk radio (Lorraine Jacques White and Derrick Boazman had a field day). Frank Ski had Beverly Hall on his show. The accolades flowed.

The pronouncements were yelled from the highest rooftops and the denouncements were hurled as the Black community rose up to defend their Black Superintendent, Black Teachers, and Black Principals against the racist, Mr. Charlie and his racist newspaper.

Well, now that the smoke has cleared. We see we were victims, all right. Our children were victims. Even Mr. Charlie had a little to do with it in that he and his Metro Chamber of Commerce helped to conceal the cheating.

For if it came out that cheating was going on and the APS was really as bad as people said it was then Atlanta would not be able to get companies to come here.

So now what do we do? Well, to his credit, Derrick Boazman of WAOK is planning a parent training and he wants volunteers to be in schools on opening day (Quick aside-are we the only people on the planet who need to have Fatherhood seminars, Manhood camps, Parent training? Is not all that built into our genetic DNA? Or has Mr. Charlie taken that DNA out also? Boy, this Charlie guy sure is powerful. Sorry, had to go there).

But more has to be done. We must clean house. Every room. Every closet. When you clean your house, do you just clean one room? No, you scrub every nook and cranny.

So we should completely clean the house of Atlanta politics. Every school board member should have a challenger this next election. If you were on the board during this scandal, then you should step down or at least have a credible challenger.

Are you an elected official who served on the city council or state legislature while this was going on? Then Bye Bye.

Why? Because we do not clean only one room. Look at the campaign literature from the last election cycle. Education is, by far, the number one position that all the politicians ran on. Crime was second.

So now that education in Atlanta has crashed in the biggest scandal in U.S. history, should you not be held accountable? And do not tell me it is not your job, you made it your job by running on "Educational Standards."

Even our congressman has a position on education on his website. (And, where has he been on this issue? Oh yeah, dealing with the debt ceiling).

Where are our city council members, all of whom said Education is important and "I will do all to make it better, when elected?"

Well, you failed. So now you've got to be cleaned out. If there is a stink coming from the kitchen, does it not affect the whole house? We must challenge every seat of government in Atlanta going forward.

If we do not, then what is exactly the point? Consider the outcry from the original AJC story. If this city were run by whites, our local leadership would call for everyone's head.

But, when its Black heads, we somehow go quiet. We become protective. Well, protect yourkids and the future of our community by cleaning house from top to bottom.

Every janitor, every gym teacher, every coach, every cafeteria worker, every crossing guard, every teacher, every principal, every congressman, every mayor, every city council member, every state legislature in thew city of Atlanta should HAVE to re -nterview for his or her job.

For when you clean house, you don't get to wash just the dirty clothes.
