Blog Post: Cornel, Barack and Shelley Wynter's Views

I clarify my slightly, uh, inflammatory comments in this blog.

For those of you who follow me on Facebook or who listed to my radio show, you know that I tend to be, uh, slightly inflammatory with my posts and comments.

I have defended the Tea Party. I have defended what others have called racist incidents. And, according to some, I have “attacked” President Obama. (Though, I believe "attacked" is the word now used when anyone shares a view different from that of our President).

With this in mind, I thought I would take this blog post to illuminate and clarify.

First of all, unlike Professor Cornel West, I supported Barack Obama from the day he announced for President in February 2007. Back in those glory days, I spent a full year on the radio (WAOK 1380-AM ) telling Black folks that he would win and how.

Yes, Black folks, many who now call me an "Uncle Tom" and "race traitor" for criticizing the President when I disagree with him.

Some of these folks are the same folks who told me “No black man can win,” “Hillary is better,”  and, my all time favorite, “You want him to win the primary so the Republicans can walk in the White House.”

The same people who believed a black man could not win a national election, now believe that every critique is race based.

Now, if you are logical, then your mind is saying to itself, “Shelley, that does not make sense." Well, it does because as the Cornel West saga has shown, the real race people are us.

Consider that Cornel West is star speaker and voice of Black people. Whenever he speaks he receives the ovations. His rap album was talked about as if it were the second coming of ”Ready to Die” or “The Blueprint.”

But all of that matters not to the race-based minds of my brothers and sisters who now call Cornel West “out of touch,” “insignificant” and “bourgie” because he said what he believed to be true of President Obama. Now, do I agree? No not with his wording but his point, absolutely.

His point was, how do you vote for someone and get nothing in return? Well, I have been saying that for years. How do Black people vote for Democrats and get nothing in return?

Back to the blog.

I have been trying to get my people to see that an entire party has been taking advantage of them. And, furthermore, my support of President Obama from the beginning was because he was and is a moderate centrist. Like me. But all my Black progressive friends see him doing no wrong.

Now, back to Facebook. I post what I post to illuminate the fact that there is fundamentally and logically no difference between a voter who loves Barack Obama because he is black and Democrat than the person who hates him because he is Black and a Democrat.

You see both are deluded by emotion. And in this world—where the fight is global and Blacks are losing—there is no time to be emotional.
