Black Girls Run in the 2012 Peachtree Road Race

A new map shows the top participating zips in Metro Atlanta. How is Southwest Atlanta represented in the 2012 Peachtree Road Race?

As we draw closer to the July 4 , the biggest 10K in the world, runners are out all over Cascade and Camp Creek training before the big race.

The question was asked by some of our neighbors in the northern parts of the county: Just how many residents from each zipcode will be participating among the estimated 60,000 runners in this year's big race?

The Atlanta Journal Constitution, sponsor of the Peachtree Road Race, recently released a map showing the top participating zip codes in the metro-Atlana area.

Of course the map shows little participation throughout our community, so I went out to prove the "trusted AJC map" wrong. In fact, the map does not even attempt to show South Fulton's participation.

I easily found a large group of women training for this upcoming Road Race.  Black Girls Run is a runner's club that has various groups around the nation that meet up on specific days to Run and Walk.  They are not specifically training for the Peachtree Road Race, but every year around this time there are always a group of women interested in running the roadrace.

Ebony, who I met at Thursday nights run, is participating in her 4th Peachtree Road Race, and said that they have a number of new and returning runners this year. Ebony stressed to me that it is not all about the race and your personal time, but more importantly its about having fun and seeing all the people.

So... according to the "map" which zipcode has the most participants? That award belongs to 30319 with 2.15 percent. This zip is mostly unincorporated DeKalb county, but a small part of 30319 is in Fulton.
