Who is Jimmy Carter?

Join us Saturday June 2 at 1 PM at the entrance of the Carter Center: children 16 and under free adults $8

Parents what I have presented you with is an essential question. This is basically the brainstorming stage of the lesson it allows one to think. But if one has no prior (before) knowledge thinking seems a little tedious. The possibilities of your child finding out who Mr. Carter is on T.V. are slim to  none. They won’t even find this on the latest video game, apple product, or even the wonderful internet not unless a person prompts it. So do we just wait around and allow the school system to briefly touch on the topic or do we explore this as a family.

If you have a student in elementary school then they have heard the name before. This is a 2nd grade social studies standard and he is also talked about in Georgia and American History. Why not check out a few books about him, discuss, and even visit the Jimmy Carter Library. It is the next best thing to visit instead of going to the White House to see the oh, so famous Oval Office. I took a trip there to see a model of the White House with my MOTHER in middle school. This will be the United States history all packed into one place. We have to expose our children to more!

So how does one prepare for a family field trip? First thing you should do is go to the website check out the times, Educational Resources, andaddress. Second thing you want to do is join Parent University on Saturday June 2nd at 1 P.M at the Carter Center entrance. (Must I say early is on time and on time is late)!  Next you want to find books and print up the information of the website. As a family you can review the information to make this truly a learning experience. Afterwards you can have lunch with flavor from Sushi (Ru sans), Stir fry (Chow baby), Soul food (Kenley’s) or Pizza (Fellini's). If you are on a budget sandwiches paced from home! Next, just share with us your experience on the FB group page Education Starts At Home. Parent University has just planned a full day in your family’s favor. I bet you your children will remember who Jimmy Carter and Dr. George Washington Carver (1st grade standard) are. Let me give you one hint
he didn’t invent peanut butter! All this can be found at the Carter Center.
Please join us. Thank you!
