My Weapon of Choice is My Voice!

My Weapon of Choice is My Voice

There is nothing new under the sun! Have you ever wondered why they copy right sayings? As I digress! While writing this I am listening to Makaveli, why, I guess I am trying to tap into the same spirit that made this man a genius with his words!

On Tuesday I attended a Peoples Agenda meeting. I felt like some were on edge because the last time I was there I wanted to talk about the Butler Street YMCA, but that didn’t seem to be on their AGENDA even though its’ 118 years run through the veins of all of them. Tyrone Brooks wanted to bring up the millionaires in the community who have no tie to this structure. Well they do, but not like them. Andrew Young said he was not tied to buildings, but the movement! What movement? He must be referring to the movement out of one of the most historic communities in the world!

My question is, do you not see what is happening to Atlanta, my people, and it is not new. They are coming back to the cities! Why? Because gas is high! Gas does affect all of us regardless of your race or creed. They are trying to move closer to their jobs. And they want to move so close that they can bike to work. While we drive to work in our Lexus and other brands we know we can’t afford. Our history is being systematically taken away and put into museums for them to learn how we created such genius structures. For them, to study how we are so resilient, despite of our social economic status. But we will be fed with the short end of the sticks, because we depend on them to tell our history.

Auburn Avenue has lost buildings but first the massive structure they built called the highway smack in the middle of a striving district. We lost the hotel that stood where Renaissance Condos stand. Lost the Rucker Building, Herndon Plaza, Citizen Trust Building, Butler Street YMCA, and the Herndon Building. They are now using part of the Herndon building as a parking lot! Must I go on or do you get it. Georgia State owns most of these. Remember we almost lost Atlanta Daily World building too. This will be lost history such as Shermantown! Nathan McCall wrote a book about Gentrification I might need to read it.

Blacks have entered the race 400 years behind and we are fighting to stay in it. My question to you is, aren’t you tired of rebuilding? We could have old money if we didn’t have to start over every 30 years.

So is this something new, no! Africville, Canada is a prime example http://www.africville.ca/. I wish I could just open the eyes of our people (meaning the underserved). I speak for the blacks, browns, and the underserved. There is nothing new under the sun! If they do it to each other what makes you think they wouldn’t do it to you! My hope is this reaches the masses so we can converse on topics like these.
