Crane calls on Governor Deal to implement the remedies outlined in the GDOT Disparity Study for
TSPLOST.
"Today I am calling on Governor Deal to review the GDOT Disparity study and direct his staff to
immediately implement the remedies outlined in the study," said Crane.
Crane said, "the first thing that Governor Deal can do is to call on his legislative leaders in the House and
Senate to pass State Representative Roger Bruce's bill HB 1241 introduced last session to create the
Georgia Division of Minority and Women Business Development in the Governor’s office of Economic
Development."
This Bill outlines provisions for goals to be set for purchasing with minority and women-owned
businesses for goods, services and contracts in the State of Georgia. "I believe that the Governor has
the GDOT study which provides the legal predicate for implementing this legislation immediately," said
Crane.
"I will be happy to be a prime cosponsor, along with Representative Bruce once he pre-files this Bill
before the next legislative session, once elected to House District 62," said Crane.
"I agree with the provision in the bill to conduct a Disparity Study of all State Agencies to determine the
accurate disparity if one exists to provide remedies to correct it going forward," said Crane.
Crane indicated that "this bill will be a first step in creating jobs and wealth in communities that have
been under served and underrepresented in the purchasing of goods and services by the State of
Georgia."
"This segment of our community has been providing taxes to the state of Georgia and has not gotten a
return on that investment in the form of jobs nor contracts," Crane said, "Not one mile of road has ever
been completed by a black contractor in this state's history!" Crane said, "I could support the TSPLOST
PENNY sales tax if these actions had been taken before the vote on July 31st."
"It's long overdue for Georgia to do the right thing and correct this disparity for future generations so we
can create jobs and business opportunities to stabilize our communities of color," said Crane.
