Music therapy can help Parkinson's patients walk and people with Alzheimer's remember in the brain even among people who have lost the ability to recognize their own relatives.

Music Therapy offers Hope for Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s Music might help people with cognitive impairment, including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, a study suggests. Frank Russo, a cognitive scientist doing research at Ryerson University in Toronto, is using new technology to probe the link between sound and the parts of the brain that control movement. Two-thirds of all the people in the entire history of the world who have survived to the age of 65 years are still alive today. The fastest growing population segment in America is the 85-year old group. Today there are approximately 5 ½ million patients with Alzheimer’s disease in America. By 2010 there will be one-half million patients per year. By 2050 that number will reach one million new patients per year. Globally, there are approximately 26 ½ million patients with Alzheimer’s disease that is roughly 1 in 8! Every 71 seconds today, someone in America develops Alzheimer’s disease!
