An Ethics Officer said that Mayor Pittman violated the city charter.
The East Point Mayor Earnestine Pittman is battling both a law suit from two residents wanting her out of office, but also an ethics hearing on Monday that said she violated the oath of office. According to an AJC report, "Collins and fellow East Point resident Dustin Drabot filed a lawsuit Friday, Aug. 10, to have Pittman removed from office. Collins said Pittman has violated her oath of office, failed to follow city ordinances and has violated the city charter and the state code." A Patch poll of Georgia Democrats found that most respondents feel that Mitt Romney’s decision to tap Rep. Paul Ryan as his running mate could make it easier for Democrats to paint the GOP ticket as out of touch with the middle class. “Romney is now absolutely married to the tax breaks for the rich, tax increases for the middle class, gut the programs for everybody but the 1%,” one respondent said. Joshua Sieck is the APD officer that is being charged for causing another driver's death.
Update: The Atlanta Police say they have fired Officer Sieck. (7/27) APD officer Joshua Sieck has been charged with 2nd degree vehicular homicide after his patrol car ran into Jacqueline Culp's BMW and caused her death, according to CBS and APD reports. CBS Atlanta is reporting that, "Joshua Sieck was running an emergency call when the crash happened just before 5 p.m. on July 21." The crash is still under investigation by the Fulton County Police Department. On September 5 at the South Fulton Magistrate Court, Officer Sieck will have his first court appearance. As Posted in the AJC Obituary Column: Robert 'Coach' Sidney Greer, age 84, of Atlanta, GA, formerly of Douglasville, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2012. He was born December 19, 1927 in Atlanta, GA, son of the late Edgar Smith and Elizabeth Coogler Greer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Greer. Mr. Greer was a Veteran of the US Air Force, a graduate of the University of Georgia with a Masters degree in Education, also lettered in football at UGA for 3 years in 1948, 1949, 1950, and was a member of the Ben Hill Masonic Lodge #674. A statement from the East Point Fire Department: The City of East Point Fire Department is mourning the death of a 15 year veteran of the Fire Service. Firefighter Carl Blake was killed in a motorcycle accident on Monday, June 4, 2012 on Jones Road in Northwest Atlanta. A Preliminary investigation revealed that Firefighter Blake was traveling north in the 2300 block of Jones Road on his 2007 Suzuki GSXR Motorcycle when he allegedly lost control of his motorcycle. According to Atlanta Police reports, a witness to the accident indicated she was backing out of the driveway in the 2300 block of Jones Road, when she noticed Mr. Blake’s motorcycle. The creator of what some say was the longest-running national syndicated television show in history was found dead in his Los Angeles home about 4 a.m. today, according to national news reports.
Don Cornelius, the creator and longtime host of the groundbreaking music show "Soul Train," has died, the Huffington Post and other news sites are reporting. He was 75. According to a story in today's Los Angeles Times , a family member arrived at his Mulholland Drive home in Encino on Wednesday morning and found Cornelius with a gunshot wound to the head, authorities said. That family member was one of Cornelius' two sons, according to a report on TMZ. He was rushed to Cedars Sinai Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 4:56 a.m., according to an Associated Press story on today's USA Today website. The funeral for Father Crayton T. Dudley is 11 a.m. today at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. today at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 306 Peyton Rd., for Father Crayton T. Dudley who died Thursday, Dec. 1. Dudley was born February 23, 1928, to Inell Long and Jack Dudley, in Atlanta. At an early age he joined the Beulah Baptist Church in the Edgewood community. He attended Wesley Avenue Elementary School, David T. Howard Junior High and Booker T. Washington High and graduated in 1945. He entered Morehouse College for one year before being drafted in the Army in 1946. He was honorably discharged March 1947 and was unable to get back into Morehouse until 1948. Clark College had some vacancies and he graduated from Clark in 1950. He married Allegra Lewis shortly after graduation on October 9, 1952. He held …
