First Identical Twins Named Co-Valedictorians for Spelman College, Class of 2013

Identical twins Kirstie and Kristie Bronner achieved a stellar academic career at Spelman College and as a result have been named co-valedictorians for the Spelman Class of 2013. They graduate with a perfect 4.0 GPA and are the first twins to earn co-vale

  Identical twins Kirstie and Kristie Bronner, C’2013, have been named co-valedictorians for the Spelman College Class of 2013. With a 4.0 GPA, the Bronners are the first twins to receive the designation in the history of Spelman College.   “Being co-valedictorians of our class is very exciting and a blessing for us,” said Kirstie. Following graduation, Kristie and Kirstie, both music majors, plan to join the youth ministry at Word of Faith Family Worship Cathedral in Atlanta, pastored by their father Bishop Dale Bronner. In between directing youth events and counseling in the music department, they look forward to recording a contemporary Christian CD. On the heels of the CD, they want to pen a book offering advice to high school students…

Price Middle School Raising Funds for a France Summer Trip

Ten middle school students and 6 chaperones are to meet classmates from sister school on a 10-day educational trip. They are holding a fundraiser to defray cost of the trip.

HISTORIC SOUTH ATLANTA — The purpose of traveling to France is to further enhance students’ knowledge and skills to become active global citizens of our 21st century society. In addition, it will allow Luther Judson Price Middle School students to meet their French classmates from College de Haut Penoy and experience going to school in another country. However, in order to make this dream become a reality, we need your assistance by sponsoring 16 people selected to travel to Nancy–Metz, France. This letter is to inform you that our Principal, Ms. Gaynor, will not be given the opportunity to serve as Principal in APS beyond the current school year. We need your help!

Dear STEMS’ Parents, We need your help! I am Maryann Briley, a STEMS’ parent and the Chairperson of the STEMS Local School Council.  This letter is to inform you that our Principal, Ms. Gaynor, will not be given the opportunity to serve as Principal in APS beyond the current school year.  She has been denied a Principal’s Contract with APS.  This is a TRAVESTY and we deserve as explanation from the District!  We solicit your input and support as we plan a course of action to take our wishes and concerns before the District. Local Woodward Academy Student Wins Scholarship for his Incredible Violin Talents

The Georgia District of Kiwanis Art and Music Showcase provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate their talents in a competitive atmosphere.

Andrew Koonce is a 9th grader at Woodward Academy, a talented violinist, and a member (for the second year) of the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra. He is a violinist. This year, Andrew Koonce, a Fulton County resident- whose parents are members of the Metro Atlanta Kiwanis Club- was the First Prize winner of the $3,500 music scholarship. The Georgia District Kiwanis Foundation provided a total of $15,000 in Educational Scholarships - $7,500 in the Art Contest and $7,500 in the Music Contest.  The first-place award in each contest received an educational scholarship in the amount of $3,500. The Carson Scholars Fund announced today that 7 of 20 Atlanta area students named 2013 Carson Scholars, are from schools in SW Atlanta.

The Carson Scholars Fund has announced that 7 of 20 Atlanta area students named 2013 Carson Scholars, are from schools in SW Atlanta.  They are among 91 students in the southeastern United States to receive the 2013 Carson Scholar title. These students will be recognized at the Annual Carson Scholars Fund Awards Ceremony. The local students are: Since 2002, the Carson Scholars Fund has recognized more than 400 students in the southeast. The Annual Awards Banquet is the most important event of the year for the Carson Scholars Fund as it honors these high achieving students in the presence of their families, educators, school administrators, and community. 7 Sandtown Band Students to Perform with the Rialto Jazz for Kids All-Star Big Band

Congrats on such a huge accomplishment!

Cascade Patch has just learned that 7 Sandtown Middle School students have been selected to perform with the Rialto Jazz for Kids All-Star Big Band! Under the direction of Dr. Gordon Vernick -an accomplished author and musician, and head of Georgia State University Jazz Studies- the program accepts the most outstanding students from five of their partner APS and Fulton County middle schools (Jean Childs Young, Sandtown, Ridgeview, Inman, and Taylor Road). According to Christel Jackson, this year there are 7 students from Sandtown Middle who have been given this unique opportunity to show off their skills and learn more skills. Cascade Area Students Named Gates Millennium Scholars

The Gates Millennium Scholars Program, part of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, picks 1,000 students every year who receive scholarships to use at a university or college of their choice.

Fourteen high school students from Atlanta Public Schools, including five from Cascade Patch schools, were named Gates Millennium Scholars. The students from the Cascade area named included: The Gates Millennium Scholars Program, part of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, picks 1,000 students every year who receive scholarships to use at a university or college of their choice. Raynard Johnson is a lifetime resident of SW Atlanta and has been a constant advocate, on his Facebook page and Twitter account, for everything related to Southwest Atlanta and the metro area.

Dear Friends, On April 19, 2013 I announced my candidacy for the Atlanta Board of Education, representing District 5. I have filed the declaration of intention to accept campaign contributions for the Atlanta School Board seat and I will submit the necessary forms to qualify to have my name placed on the ballot as the filing dates approach. I humbly ask for your support and your vote on Election Day, Tuesday November 5, 2013.
