Hosea Williams Feed The Hungry
1035 Donnelly Ave SW, Atlanta, GA 30310

The 40-year-old organization, which maintains the largest food bank in the southeast that serves people directly,More feeds the first 25 people in line three days a week. A minimun of five to 10 volunteers a day packed the boxes with enough canned, bottled and bagged goods to feed a family of four for up to two weeks.

The organization, started by Civil Rights Leader and World War II veteran Hosea Williams, helped about 80,000 men, women and children last year through its inhouse and outreach programs.

The faith-based organization's lists of efforts include helping struggling families (mostly women with children) pay rent, utilities and moving costs. The organization conducts follow-up assessments of the people it helps, provide job referrals and delivers school supplies to thousands of disenfranchised children.

Yet perhaps, the organization's most noteworthy event is the thousands it feeds during the major holiday seasons: Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Even if it's just for one day, the organization transforms the lives of thousands of homeless by providing them amenities such as hot showers, haircuts, medical treatments, changes of clothes and full course meals. It can also get a free one-way bus ticket to see families anywhere in the country.
