(submitted by Aaron Berger) The kids of Benjamin Mays High School were given the surprise of a lifetime when NFL player Roddy White enrolled for an afternoon. During the day, Roddy filled the role of cheerleader, band member, teacher and coach. Leading by example, he provided the kids with anecdotes about what it means to trust the power within. Then, after spending the day off the field, he returned to what he’s most comfortable with - football - where he surprised the school with a major donation of items that will give students the tools they need to trust their power both on and off the field, including football equipment and gear for the team, as well as Texas Instruments calculators, Maglite flashlights, and a Zoll Automated External…

Roddy White visited Mays High School and was able to join the staff for a day.
Mays High School students had a special visitor at their school this week, when Atlanta Falcons Wide Receiver, Roddy White came for the day. Roddy White, a star on the Atlanta Falcons, came to Mays HS to partake in being a teacher, a cheerleader, a band member, a football coach, and even a "lunch-lady" for a day. According to the AJC report, one of White's highlights was to get on the PA system in the morning to announce his presence. It seems that every kid has always wanted to be on the PA system at school, and it was no different for the Pro Bowl football player. I know the Draft family well. Keasha was a class act. Chris is surviving the loss of his true love.
Former Atlanta Falcon Chris Draft is used to hard knocks. But he received the biggest blow of his life recently when he lost his beautiful wife 38-year-old LaKeasha Rutledge Draft after a valiant fight with lung cancer. Keasha was a fitness nut, just like her husband. She never smoked and led a very healthy lifestyle. The Drafts were married exactly one month. She was so weak at the wedding that she had to go down the aisle in a wheelchair, but she was able to take the last few steps to the alter before being seated with Chris to take their vows. Thank you for writing such a wonderful piece on the Drafts. I cried watching parts of the wedding video, but I did smile seeing Mr. & Mrs. Draft dance at the reception. I could see the love in their eyes. My thoughts go out to the family at this difficult time.   more ›
