A sea of blue-uniformed police officers from APD and other police jurisdictions filled the pews at Elizabeth Baptist Church in Cascade Heights. They came not only to give comfort to Thomas' family and say goodbye to Thomas, a 20-year veteran who started out as a police dispatcher, but also to celebrate her life. Bryant, the Atlanta police officer in charge of police services in the zone that serves much of southwest Atlanta, spoke to Cascade Patch recently about public safety in 2012.
Just over a month ago, the Atlanta Police Department began serving new zone boundaries for the city. Atlanta Police Department Zone 4, which covers most of southwest Atlanta, is now divided into four instead of two beats. The Atlanta police department began to discuss re-structuring the police beats last year and held several public hearings to give residents a chance to voice concerns and opinions. The decision to move certain areas into new zones was based on call volume and reported crimes in each area. Earlier this month, Cascade Patch talked to Major Rodney Bryant, the Zone 4 commander, about the realignment, how to report a crime and what he described as "strong support" for public safety in southwest Atlanta. See the attached …

Southwest Atlanta's busy zone 4 is now split among four beats instead of two, as the Atlanta Police Department's beat redesign took effect Tuesday morning. The beat redesign, previewed in March through a series of community meetings, launched at 3:00 am. "The busy southwest quadrant of the zone that includes Greenbriar Mall is being split from two beats to four beats," said Atlanta Police Department spokesman Carlos Campos, in an announcement on Tuesday. The department noted in 2010 that the workload for calls for service among Atlanta police officers varied greatly among the city’s six geographical zones, with some officers far busier than others. As a result of the overall beat redesign, 12 new beats were added to the city, for a total …

Why is this posting on this site? Are you serious? It is obvious this is about sensationalism, rather than SW Atlanta news. If the idea was to get the message out that the offenders have rightfully been identified, there should be more informative content in the post, followed [perhaps] by a link to the video. Although, with all honesty, I would have been satisfied with no link to that video and …   more ›
