The 'Georgia Students for Concealed Carry' Response to CAU Student Robbed at Gunpoint

This is the Georgia Students for Concealed Carry response to the most recent incident at Clark Atlanta University.

This is the Georgia Students for Concealed Carry response to the most recent incident at Clark Atlanta University. Submitted by Jason Stubbs The incident earlier this week at Clark Atlanta University proves once again that criminals care nothing for the sanctity and supposedly sacred nature of a college campus when they robbed a Clark Atlanta University student as she walked the few feet from the library to her residence. It also shows that state leaders who have continually voted to keep law abiding citizens defenseless around college and university campuses in the state owe more than an apology to the brave young woman who, even after being victimized, was brave enough to go on camera and tell her story about being robbed by four young …

GSU has had 6 robberies since Sept. Yesterday a woman was raped on campus at GA Southern. "Gun Free Zones" fail to keep the bad guns off campus. They only succeed in keeping the good guns(read law-abiding) off. It really is a convenient law for the criminal. In his rudimentary mind even he understands the "fish in a barrel" analogy this law allows.   more ›

Rev. Joseph Lowery Inspires Clark Atlanta Students to Fight Voter Suppression and Vote

Joseph Lowery spoke about voter suppression laws at Clark Atlanta University's 2012 Convocation Ceremony on Tuesday, September 18th.

The 91 year-old Civil Rights legend, Reverend Dr. Joseph Lowery was the keynote speaker at Clark Atlanta University's 2012 Convocation on Tuesday morning.  The Historic Black College that sits in the shadow of downtown Atlanta greeted Dr. Lowery with a thunderous clap as he entered the gym and took his seat on stage. Dr. Lowery spoke of how and why this election is crucial.  He said that there are forces that are trying to take away, "everything we have fought and died for."  The so-called voter suppression laws that are on the books in over 30 states, are intended to "bring us back," he said.  Bring us back to the old days when the poor and blacks had less political power.  Joseph Lowery was able to give first hand stories of how it was …

Photos: Atlanta Voters United and CAU Launch Effort to Register More Student Voters

Passion and civic pride set the tone on the CAU campus Tuesday as hundreds of students register to vote.

Article submitted by Gloria Locke, Photos by Darlene Whittington Passion and civic pride set the tone on the CAU campus Tuesday as hundreds of students came together in red and black to participate in the process of becoming registered voters. Armed with the theme, “The Movement Must Continue,” the university dedicated its opening convocation to the civil rights struggle and voter registration. Following the lead of campus leaders, the students were first inspired by an igniting message from civil rights icon, Dr. Joseph Lowery who reminded the gathering that the right to vote for African Americans literally came into being as a result of the blood, sweat and tears of past generations. In view of changes to voter ID requirements and other …

Video: Clark Atlanta University Remembers September 11th and its Civil Servants

Students of Clark Atlanta University gather to remember 9/11 and its heroes.

On September 11th, 2012 exactly 11 years since terrorists flew planes into the Twin Towers in New York City, students gathered on campus to remember the fallen and to vow to "never forget." In a small ceremony, students and faculty prayed together and showed their support for grieving families and even for the local first responders in the area that risk their lives everyday. Ms. Jackson, who is now a student at Clark, took to the microphone and shared how 11 years ago she was just a small girl who watched with horror as the planes hit the towers and the sadness she felt after realizing friends and family members had passed away in the attack. The ceremony ended with a simple request and gesture.  Those in attendance were asked to come to …

Mays High School Band fills in for Clark Atlanta Band due to Possible Hazing at CAU

Clark Atlanta University's band has been suspended due to allegations of hazing.

Over the weekend at Clark Atlanta's opening football game, the sounds from the marching band were heard as normal, but this time it was the Mays High School Band playing the instruments not Clark Atlanta students. The marching band of CAU was placed on a temporary suspension as the school investigates claims of hazing.  Just a year after the high profile hazing incident at FAMU, where one of SW Dekalb's former students was killed after an incident of hazing, schools around the country are very sensitive to the allegations. According to WSB-TV, the Mays band jumped at the opportunity to play at the college game and were pleased to have the opportunity. Details about CAU's investigation have not been made public, but in statements Clark …
