Shots were fired early Thursday, November 8th.
Early Thursday morning gunfire was exchanged between a man and an APD officer who was responding to a "prowler call" at the Family Dollar located at 3500 Martin Luther King Dr. According to a WSB report, "the police said the person pulled a gun and they exchanged gunfire. The man was hit twice and taken to the hospital in critical condition." APD Public Affairs Department said that Homicide will release more details later this afternoon.

C.T. Martin, community members, and NPU-H residents protest the building of a new Family Dollar store in the area.
"No Family Dollar" was chanted by over a dozen protesters that gathered at the site of the newest Family Dollar store on Friday, August 24th, located at Fairburn Road and Benjamin Mays Drive in southwest Atlanta. The stores have been in the forefront of resident's minds lately due to the fact that at least 2 stores are in the early stages of being erected in the area. Residents continue to express disappointment and anger that these stores are multiplying in the SW Atlanta area. A common statement, that can be heard throughout the neighborhood and at the protest from a NPU-H member is that, "Family Dollar brings crime (with it)." The incident occurred Monday afternoon.
Atlanta police are investigating the death of a man who was shot and killed at a Cascade Family Dollar store. "Our preliminary investigation suggests that the victim was possibly in a dispute with one or more subjects involving some kind of electronic device," said APD spokesperson Kim Jones. The incident occurred Monday afternoon, when officers responded to a persons-shot call at the store. Police said the victim was alive at the scene, but died after arriving at Grady Memorial Hospital. The suspect or suspects fled the scene, traveling eastbound on Campbellton Road in a blue, foor-door vehicle. According to 11Alive, the victim, whose name has not been released, was in his 20s, and shot in the back.
