Why Has the Program that put Cops in Foreclosed Homes Stopped?

Do you remember the excitement as the program started to launch?

At a recent NPU-T meeting, the topic of selling foreclosed homes to the city so that they could put Police families in them came up because neighbors were discussing all of the crime and vandalism that occurs in a foreclosure. To much of the meeting room's surprise, residents were informed that the program has been put on a hiatus if not stopped completely.  No longer was it an option for neighbors to try to propose properties for police officers to move into. ADA Butler broke the news to the room, but was careful to try to explain why the program needed a second look. Georgia Posts Highest Foreclosure Rate in the Nation

1 out of every 300 homes in Georgia has started the foreclosure process.

Georgia has leapfrogged over Arizona, Florida, and Nevada to post the highest foreclosure rate this month in the entire country. According to a RealtyTrac Report (attached), during the month of May Georgia saw 33% month over month growth in the number of foreclosures, and now "One in every 300 housing units (has) a foreclosure filing." How do you think Metro Atlanta, including Cascade and Southwest Atlanta, did compared to other large cities? Atlanta came in second.  Our neighborhoods had the 2nd highest foreclosure rate among the 20 largest U.S. cities.  Only behind Riverside-San Bernadino, CA was Atlanta with 1 in every 224 homes being foreclosed on instead of 1 in every 179.  We all see what the housing burst has done within our …

The majority of the people with foreclosures had no business buying a home in the first place. Just pure GREED. One third of houses are paid off. Foreclosure Prevention Workshop Tonight in Adamsville Area

Fulton County Housing and Community Development will present another Information session on "How to Prevent Foreclosure" at the Adamsville Collier Heights Branch Library.

Fulton County residents can take advantage of another free session tonight on how to save their homes from foreclosure. The information workshop is 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wed., August 24, at the Atlanta—Fulton County Adamsville Collier Heights Branch Library, 3424 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. Residents at risk for foreclosure will receive information on foreclosure prevention options along with contact information for United States Department of Housing and Urban Development certified housing counselors. Housing counselors can provide free guidance on how to work with mortgage holders to prevent foreclosure through options such as loan modifications, forbearance or other alternatives.
