Atlanta Opens Pools, Cooling Stations
The City of Atlanta opens all swimming pools, cooling stations to help keep citizens cool. Seven pools open free to the public; fire department to provide free water at fire stations.
In response to the high temperatures expected this weekend, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department (AFRD), Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs (DPRCA) and the Mayor’s Office of Constituent Services have opened five cooling stations this weekend to ensure that Atlanta’s residents have a safe place to stay cool during the heat wave. Residents, especially senior citizens, are strongly advised to take advantage of these cooling stations if needed. There are senior centers on Hollowell Pkwy, Marietta Blvd in NW Atlanta for seniors and their families to enjoy. There is a great water fountain park on Hollowell Pkwy as well whre everyone can get cooled off. Add in the library on Jackson Pkwy and the other options, and there seems to be good options for those who don't spend on A/C.   more ›
