Letter to the Editor: NAACP opposes charter schools, encourages “No” vote

The NAACP maintains that a State Commission for Charter Schools would dilute voter power

An Open Letter to the Atlanta Community: The Atlanta Branch of the NAACP, in concert with our National policy adopted by the National Convention and ratified by the Board of Directors, continues to stand firm and adamant in our support of the improvement of public schools. This coming November 6, Election Day, there will be a referendum, Amendment 1, on the ballot statewide that speaks to charter schools and the way in which individual charters are granted.  Voters will be asked to consider a proposed amendment to the state constitution that would establish a commission to consider charter applications.  Passage of the amendment would also clarify the state’s power to authorize and fund charter schools.  The Atlanta Branch of the NAACP …

NAACP of Georgia Warns Voters about Possibly Faulty Voting Machines

The Georgia State Conference (GSC) NAACP President held a press conference Thursday afternoon, releasing their findings.

On Thursday, November 1, the Georgia State Conference (GSC) NAACP President, Mr. Edward O. DuBose and the NAACP Leaders held a press conference at the Georgia State Capitol Building to warn voters about a peculiar voting machine irregularity and to speak out against “Charter School” Amendment HR 1162. “I am deeply concerned about a voting machine error that could have prevented an experienced voter from selecting the presidential candidate of her choice,” stated DuBose.   The incident occurred on Monday, October 29th at an early voting location in Macon County when an African-American voter tried to cast a vote for the incumbent President Barack Obama; but was unable to because the machine selected and “locked-in” Governor Mitt Romney …
