2 Southwest Atlanta Parks Get Significant Park Pride Grants
Money will be awarded to Perkinson Park and to Rev. James Orange Park.
Park Pride is awarding $550,000 in grants to 11 Atlanta parks and five DeKalb County greenspaces. The largest single grant of $100K, went to one of our own parks in Southwest Atlanta, for the demolition of an old pool in Oakland City. Perkerson Park, 770 Deckner Ave. SW, will receive $46,500 to build a World-class 18-hole disc golf course to add to its newly built splash pad and existing tennis courts. Rev. James Orange Park, formerly Oakland City Park, located at 1305 Oakland Dr. SW, will receive $100,000 to complete the demolition of the old pool and pool house. I appreciate all the great work done by the disc footers at Perkerson Park. But will there still be room for others who just want to walk their dogs or picnic? It seems that the disc golfers need a dedicated course just for them similar to a conventional golf course. Is there no happy medium?   more ›
