Southwest Atlanta's own, Rev. Robert Wright, to be ordained the New Episcopal Bishop of Atlanta on Saturday

Rev. Robert Wright from St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Peyton Rd., becomes the first African-American Atlanta diocese bishop.

Saturday morning inside Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel at Morehouse College, Reverend Robert Wright becomes the first African-American bishop of the Atlanta Episcopal diocese, and the 10th bishop overall.  The Atlanta diocese covers middle and north Georgia, has 96 parishes and 52,000 members. Photos from Rev. Wright's first sermon since being elected as the next Episcopal Bishop of Atlanta.

The Very Reverend Robert Wright will be the Episcopal church's 10th bishop and the first ever African-American. The St. Paul's congregation stood up and gave him a round of applause to both congratulate him and thank him for the 10 years of service that he gave to their church.  Rev. Wright said, "only God, could have made this happen."  He told his congregation that the work of St. Paul's "must carry on.  Leaders come and go, you must turn the page and …

Reverend Robert Wright has been rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Peyton Road in southwest Atlanta for the past 10 years and has now been elected the 10th bishop and first African-American bishop of The Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta. Personally, Rev. Wright has been a family friend and mentor over the past 10 years and I congratulate him for being voted into his new post. He has always been a man of great wisdom, and has a gift for talking to young people about the teachings and works of Jesus Christ. According to today's AJC article: "The Very Rev. Robert C. “Rob” Wright, 48, will take over as leader in Atlanta, the ninth largest among the Episcopal Church’s 110 dioceses, in October. The Atlanta diocese, which covers middle and …
