Danforth Road Sidewalks Coming Soon; Weather Forced Groundbreaking Ceremony Indoors

As residents shared with me, "sidewalks are finally coming to Danforth Road."

Last week, due to rain and the threat of freezing black ice on the roads, the official groundbreaking for the Danforth Road Sidewalk Project was moved indoors and held with a little less fanfare. But fanfare is not what residents had been requesting and fighting the city for, these past years.  Residents along Danforth Road and in the area, have complained about not having a sidewalk for years now.  It was in April 2005 that the city says that they started on the sidewalk project and within the same document state that they plan to have the project completed by September 2013.  It is official now, the work has begun, and progress should be more and more visible. Photo: Do You Think Fairburn Road near Cascade Road Needs 2 New Bridges?

The 2 bridges leave very little room for pedestrians to cross safely.

It was brought to our attention by a reader and Cascade resident that the 2 bridges on Fairburn Road near the intersection of Cascade Road are in need of updating. Since the Cascade corridor has become such a shopping center for the entire area, and due to the increased number of housing developments popping up in the area more pedestrians and vehicles are sharing the road space.  There are no sidewalks on Fairburn Road in the area that we are discussing, so pedestrians end up walking a a tiny strip of grass as cars pass by at speeds up to 50 m.p.h. The major concern, or the concern that is most pressing, is that there are 2 bridges on that strip of road that are so tight that both pedestrians and drivers think they should be renovated.  …
