Photos: Civil Rights Mural Dedication at the West End Wells Fargo

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., former Atlanta mayor and U.N. Ambassador Andrew Young, former Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson, 1940s activist Ella Baker and others.

Iconic photos of civil rights leaders combined with images from the movement’s front lines, such as the first group of African-American Atlanta police officers, make up Wells Fargo’s Civil Rights Timeline mural, which was dedicated Friday morning, October 26th at the Lee Street, West End location.  Sixty feet long and stretching half the circumference of the lobby of the West End Lee bank store, the mural starts with a 1928 photo of the office of the Atlanta Daily World and ends with a mid-90s reenactment of the 1965 Selma to Montgomery march. In between are photos of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., former Atlanta mayor and U.N. Ambassador Andrew Young, former Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson, 1940s activist Ella Baker and others. Mural Unveiled At Wells Fargo West End Location

The event was held Friday morning.

Wells Fargo's West End bank location was the site of an unveiling of a new mural celebrating the contributions of Atlanta's African-American colleges and universities. The event was held Friday morning, and coincided with the announcment of a new business fund that is designed to create jobs and small businesses in the African-American community. The fund is getting its start with a $145,000 gift from Wells Fargo to the non-profit Opportunity Funding Corporation. Wells Fargo said that money from the fund, which the is expected to grow with more private gifts, will go to promising new businesses coming out of an annual business plan competition among historically black colleges and universities that the Opportunity Funding Corporation …
