Winter Weather Alert; Rain and Possible Snow Flurries for SW Atlanta Tonight

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for metro Atlanta, which warns of light snow and black ice from Thursday afternoon to Friday morning.

Snow is expected across north Georgia this afternoon and tonight, according to the National Weather Service's winter weather advisory, which goes into effect at 1 p.m. and replaces the previous winter storm watch. A "cold polar air mass" is expected to spread into north Georgia as widespread rain shifts south. The result: Rain will mix with and change over to snow across portions of north Georgia and possibly metro-Atlanta. The heaviest snowfall would be in the northeast Georgia mountains. Snow flurries are possible for the Cascade area, though the ground is so wet and warm, it is not likely to stick.  The past 2 days of rain and some of that cold artic air is to blame for a large tree that fell across Cascade Rd on Thursday morning …
