We bought several books and had Sis. Crump autograph for family members. When they read some of the poems, tears welled up in their eyes...truly an emotional gift. Thanks for covering this event. -

ReplyWith Hinojosa, Cobb School Brd. is again fighting fire with fire. When we complained about not having many black administrators and teachers, they hired a black HR director. Now with the Hispanic pop increasing and the students protesting civil rights issues, they've hired a Hispanic Super. to quell the discontent. Virginia, I hope Santa Claus is hiding under that suit. Hope Hinojosa will not be asked for his papers by Cobb police.

I gave a great suggestion yesterday...talk to Latinos and find out their opinions on issues that affect them. It seems that none of the Latino groups like this bill. Ask them for suggestions. Encourage more Latinos to run for political office so that their constituents will be represented and they won't feel that their civil rights are violated. The last thing we need is for regular citizens to start trying to do immigration work without fully knowing the law.

ReplyInteresting that students staged protest on anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education decision. Because of new law, wonder will Cobb Cty. Brd of Ed. change their enrollment residency policy and require campus police to check every student's papers? There are over 95,000 public schools in U.S. - are ICE agents in schools? Uptick in folks wanting to "help" ICE may mean unemployed, "pseudo" immigration investigators with too much time on their hands will take on agenda of ferreting out those they deem "illegals"...Could be start of vigilante groups and crystal nights. Much concern...

Thanks, and you are right. I think a good first step BEFORE such laws are passed is to get members of the Latino community involved in conversation instead of scaring them away. I've been watching the responses to Carlos Santana's remarks re: the new law. Whew! Almost makes you SCARED to use your right of free speech, and he's a civil rights award winner!
