Spelman College Hosts Live Web Chat on 'Advancing the Health of Black Women'
On Nov. 1 at 1 p.m., on Spelman.edu,
Spelman College President Beverly Daniel Tatum and Valerie Montgomery
Rice, M.D., dean and executive vice president, Morehouse School of
Medicine, will participate in a live web chat on "Advancing the Health
of Black Women." Moderated by Mo Ivory, C'91, on-air personality, The
Ryan Cameron Morning Show, V-103 and Host, The Mo Ivory Show, 1380 WAOK,
this conversation will explore health disparities plaguing Black women
and solutions for eating better, moving more and sleeping well.
Nov. 1 marks the one year anniversary of the launch of the Wellness Revolution
at Spelman and the start of National Diabetes Month. Type II diabetes
has become a public health epidemic, and African-American women are
among the most vulnerable, more than twice as likely to develop diabetes
and other chronic illnesses as women of other ethnic groups.
