Official Homegoing Services for Mrs. Evelyn Gibson Lowery Announced
A public viewing will be held at Cascade UMC on Monday
In celebrating the life and legacy of civil rights icon, Mrs. Evelyn Gibson Lowery, the Lowery family has confirmed the following schedule of events:
Monday, September 30, 2013 Public Viewing Cascade United Methodist Church 3144 Cascade Rd Atlanta, GA 30311 11:00a.m. – 9:00p.m.
Wednesday, October 2, 2013 Home-Going Celebration for Mrs. Evelyn G. Lowery Martin Luther King Jr., International Chapel at Morehouse College
Viewing from 9:00a.m. – 10:30a.m. Celebration begins promptly at 11:00a.m.
Mrs. Lowery was the wife of civil rights activist Rev. Joseph E. Lowery and founder of S.C.L.C./Women, Inc. the sister organization of the historic civil rights organization, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (S.C.L.C.), the creator of the annual Drum Major of Justice Awards that takes place annually in April in Atlanta, GA and the creator of the annual Evelyn G. Lowery Civil Rights Heritage Educational Tour.
Having suffered a massive stroke over a week ago, Mrs. Lowery made her transition in the early hours of Thursday, September 26 in the comforts of her home, surrounded by family and her husband of close to 70 years.
