Man Dies After Being Struck While Crossing Ralph David Abernathy

Tuesday morning was a tragic day along the Ralph David Abernathy corridor in the West End area, after a pedestrian was struck and killed trying to cross the roadway.

According to the Atlanta Police, on 10-01-2013 around 8:15am officers responded to a pedestrian struck by a vehicle call in the area of 1025 Ralph D. Abernathy Blvd. "The preliminary investigation indicates that the pedestrian was crossing Ralph D. Abernathy Blvd and was not in a crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle traveling east on RDA," said Officer John Chafee.

The pedestrian was transported to Grady Hospital and died from his injuries.

According to police, "the driver advised that he did not see the pedestrian before striking him, and no charges were filed."

In my experience Ralph David Abernathy is a pretty dangerous road for pedestrians trying to cross outside of the crosswalks.  Drivers fly down that corridor going both ways, which makes it dangerous to try to cross if you do not have the right away. Please be careful!
