Cascade Wine Review: A Holiday Pinot Gris

A great everyday Pinot Gris that is perfect for cocktail parties or delicious dinners.

Mile Markers show you the path you're on. Ticking up or down, they count towards where you heading.

Mile Markers are also ways to describe achievements, goals attained, special events, and turning points in life. Most, we hope, are reasons to celebrate!

Mile Marker Wine Co. can be looked at as a fun road trip to discover new wines.  With the initial release in January, three wines were made with consulting Winemaker Rob Stuart, each one following Oregon State Route 99, which runs parallel in most places to Interstate 5.

In each spot where the grapes were grown, the Mile Marker would change, to show how wine can display different flavors, smells, and other unique characteristics  when grown in different areas.

The 2009 Mile Marker Pinot Gris was the first white wine produced, with only 450 cases made. Mile Marker 71 is located in McMinnville, Oregon, in the Northern part of the famous Willamette Valley.

When you first pour this in the glass, you'll notice the light, golden color. This Gris has aromas of white peaches, honey suckle, orange peel, and a slight hint of apples. On the first sip, you'll notice this is a light bodied white, with no hint of oak.

The fruits on the palate are peaches and apricots, with bright acidity. The second sip will add more flavors of orange peel, lemon, and peaches with a pleasant, lingering finish.

Need a glass of white wine at the end of the day? This is it. Cocktail Party? This is it, too. This Pinot Gris is also very versatile with food, and holds up great with salads, seafood (great for mussels), and spicy foods (great with MuLan's Kung Pao Chicken!)
